Montée des Érables

At SGD A, every residence is designed for a specific place and for the people who will live there. Our projects are typically one-of-a-kind, custom creations with no intention of being reproduced.

In this case, however, the process took a slightly different turn.

A client came to us with a plot of land and a clear fondness for a design we had previously developed as a conceptual project. The volumes, the spatial layout, and the relationship with the landscape already resonated with his vision. Rather than starting from scratch, we chose to preserve the essence of that original concept and carefully adapt every element to its new context.

The Montée des Érables site brings its own narrative. Perched on a rocky bluff overlooking a vast maple grove, the residence benefits from a sweeping, unobstructed view. But this privileged position also comes with significant technical challenges, which strongly influenced how the house would be positioned and quite literally anchored into the rock.

The design was adjusted to respond to this demanding topography. The original layout and proportions were maintained, while the siting, levels, and openings were rethought to maximize views and privacy, follow the contours of the land, and ensure a natural integration with the site.

The living spaces open generously to the landscape, and the materials chosen reinforce this direct connection to nature, creating a refined and immersive atmosphere throughout the home.
