The Ponds

The Ponds

QC

At the heart of a vast natural landscape, a clearing opens between mature trees. Two ponds, shaped over decades, capture the morning light and reflect the changing seasons. It is here that The Ponds takes its place, a retreat designed to bring people together.

The residence replaces an older structure that once stood too close to the road. The new volume steps back, carefully inserted among the existing trees to restore balance to the site. The remains of former stone foundations have been preserved as a quiet memory of what once stood there.

Each façade opens onto a distinct landscape, turning the home into a retreat deeply connected to its surroundings. To the east, the ponds and the rising sun create a singular atmosphere. In the distance, the contours of Jay Peak frame the horizon. At the rear, the dense forest shelters and protects the privacy of its occupants. The architecture does not seek to dominate these views, but to reveal them with restraint.

The massing draws inspiration from grand traditional residences, with strong rooflines and generous proportions designed to welcome family gatherings. Noble materials, solid stone, vertical wood cladding, and touches of steel, anchor the house to its territory. Inside, the exposed timber structure sets the tone, creating a warm and enveloping atmosphere suited to long stays.

The Ponds is a home defined by presence and continuity. An architecture rooted in time, set between water, forest, and mountain.
